FRESNO, Calif. (BEHINDTHEBROLLONLINE) -Crazy things happen when you step out of the house for coffee, I was at the Mi Cafecito at Van Ness Village early one Saturday morning when I saw an enormous line across the street at Sour Milk gift shop.
Out of shear curiosity I decided to walk across the street and ask people what they were lined up for, I was lucky enough to get a few of them to tell me on camera.
Belen Torres was one of the first people in line and the first person to give me an interview that day and she broke down for me exactly what these little dolls are.
“They’re these little dolls that are super cute,” Belen said. “They’ve gone super viral on TikTok which is a big thing.”
The more Belen told me about them the more I learned about these little dolls.
“These are actually really limited – you have to like apply to have a license to sell them.”
When I finally got a chance to talk to Sour Milk Co-Owner, Ryan Urquidez, he confirmed to me that he had to apply to sell the dolls.
In fact, Ryan told me it took several months for Sour Milk to get approved and even more time to actually received their first shipment. But ever since that first shipment, Ryan says the demand for the Sonny Angels has only grown.
“Every time we have these drops the line just gets longer and longer,” he said. “We don’t let [the shop] overcrowd, we only let a few people in at a time, and let people know they’re not guaranteed to get one.”
Regardless of how slim the chances were, no one left the line. Even in the scorching Fresno heat people waited patiently for their chance to have a Sonny Angel.
